A story dealing with the broadcast network’s declining share of ad revenue to the cable industry needed a visual to illustrate the story. This was before the advent of flat screen television. At the story meeting, I pitched a story that would show stacks of televisions of different sizes from different eras, each displaying the logo of the networks, and each displaying problematic picture quality. The photo editor was citing costs and time to produce a shoot. I suggested we use digital shots of sets while producing the screen problems using Photoshop techniques and the broadcast logos. He was more than happy to put the ball back in my court.
